Medicare Advantage Plans
If you are currently enrolled in WSHIP’s Basic or Basic Plus Plan, you may wish to consider enrolling in a Medicare Advantage Plan instead of continuing your WSHIP coverage.
- Premiums for Medicare Advantage Plans are usually less expensive than WSHIP’s Basic and Basic Plus premiums.
- You cannot be denied coverage due to health status except for end-stage renal disease.
- Some Medicare Advantage Plans include prescription drug coverage, while with others you must enroll separately in a Medicare Part D Prescription Drug Plan (PDP) if you want prescription drug coverage.
Before enrolling in a Medicare Advantage Plan, be sure to check with your doctor and other health care providers to see which Medicare Advantage Plans they accept. For more information on these plans, call 1-800-MEDICARE or visit www.medicare.gov on the web. Open enrollment for Medicare Advantage Plans is November 15 through December 31.
